The Third Director of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Interim Secretariat assumes office.

On 9 September 2026, Mr. Nawin Chirapant assumed the responsibility of the Director of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Interim Secretariat, succeeding Ms. Soonthriya Kanchana.

The Interim Secretariat was mandated to support the ACMECS’s formulation of policies, plan, and strategies, as well as making recommendations on potential areas of cooperation. It is also tasked with supporting the Chair in conference services, facilitating the implementation of ACMECS Projects, as well as developing a communication strategy. The ACMECS Interim Secretariat is currently located at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

ACMECS was initiated by Thailand in 2003 to promote connected, balanced, and sustainable development in the Mekong sub-region. Thailand will assume the ACMECS Chairmanship from Myanmar at the end of 2026, presenting an important opportunity to advance cooperation to address emerging challenges in the Mekong subregion.

เมื่อวันที่ 9 กันยายน 2569 นายนวิน จิราพันธุ์ เข้ารับตำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการสำนักงานเลขาธิการชั่วคราวกรอบยุทธศาสตร์ความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจอิรวดี-เจ้าพระยา-แม่โขง (Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy: ACMECS Interim Secretariat) ต่อจากนางสาวสุนทริยา กาญจนะ ผู้อำนวยการสำนักงานเลขาธิการชั่วคราวคนที่สอง

สำนักงานเลขาธิการชั่วคราว ACMECS มีบทบาทในการสนับสนุนการดำเนินงานของกรอบฯ ทั้งในการสนับสนุนการจัดทำนโยบาย แผนงาน และข้อเสนอด้านความร่วมมือ รวมถึงการสนับสนุนประธานด้านการจัดการประชุม ติดตามและประเมินผลโครงการสำคัญภายใต้กรอบฯ และประชาสัมพันธ์กิจกรรมที่เกี่ยวกับ ACMECS โดยปัจจุบัน สำนักงานเลขาธิการชั่วคราว ACMECS ตั้งอยู่ ณ กระทรวงการต่างประเทศของไทย

กรอบความร่วมมือ ACMECS เป็นกรอบที่ไทยริเริ่มเมื่อปี 2546 เพื่อส่งเสริมความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจ การพัฒนาที่เชื่อมโยง สมดุล และยั่งยืนของประเทศในอนุภูมิภาคลุ่มน้ำโขง โดยไทยกำหนดเข้ารับตำแหน่งประธาน ACMECS ต่อจากเมียนมาในช่วงปลายปี 2569 เป็นโอกาสอันสำคัญในการผลักดันให้กรอบ ACMECS ตอบสนองความท้าทายร่วมของอนุภูมิภาคลุ่มน้ำโขงในปัจจุบัน

ACMECS Summit 2024

Urgent Regional Action Needed to Combat Mekong Flooding Crisis

On 20 September 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with ACMECS Ambassadors to discuss an emergency response to the Mekong region flooding crisis. He emphasized the need for regional unity, proposing expedited telemeter station installations and enhanced water management cooperation to address the situation.
